Get to Know Your City
Durban Point is a historic hidden gem, a harbour edge that has quietly transformed. Once neglected, it has evolved into a precinct where old Victorian structures sit alongside bold modern redevelopment, creating a photographer’s paradise and a story rich walk. Many historic buildings have been retained and repurposed, woven into the fabric of the Point Precinct, giving you a glimpse into Durban’s past while you move through its new energy.
A morning for curious minds, easy pace walkers, and anyone who loves discovering a city best on foot.

Merrell Urban Hike
Stories of Durban - Durban Point
A Story Told on Foot
We gather at Durban Point, where the harbour’s working past still shows through, even as the precinct reshapes itself around it.
We’ll be walking with our hike leaders from Durban Walking Tours, locals who know the Point’s past and its new lines, and share it in a way that feels easy and alive.
This is a walk through a part of Durban that has been rebuilt with care, old brick and ironwork held alongside new canals, sea walls, and waterfront lines. The route is packed with stories, some gritty, some unexpected, many tucked inside buildings you might otherwise pass without a glance.
You’ll notice the details, the architecture, the repurposed warehouses, the edges where the city meets the sea. We move at an easy pace, pausing often for photos and story moments, and you’ll leave with a deeper sense of how Durban remembers, and how it renews.
Not a race. Not a lecture. A guided urban hike that invites you to slow down, listen, and see Durban with fresh eyes.
